Nico, Team Switzerland on track
Six games, six wins, and a goal differential of 35:5. That is Team Switzerland’s near perfect tally heading into the decisive final five days of the IIHF World Championships in Fribourg and Zurich. Starting this Tuesday, the Swiss will first battle for 1st place in Group A preliminary round action before trying to make a run at the World Championship title.
To kick off the third and final week of the tournament, Switzerland will take on second place Finland—who are currently tied on points—on Tuesday at 2:20 PM EST. A victory would secure first place in Group A for head coach Jan Cadieux’s squad, setting up a quarterfinal matchup on Thursday against the fourth-placed team from Group B. Should they lose to the Finns, Switzerland would finish second in Group A and face the third-placed team from Group B. Ahead of the final preliminary round games, Norway, Czechia, Slovakia, and Sweden all remain in the running to take on the Swiss team.
On a personal level, Nico has proven to be highly productive over the course of the tournament’s first ten day. Through six games, he has racked up eight points (4G / 4A), boasts a 71.25% faceoff success rate and is a plus-8 heading into the tournaments decisive string of games.
