New deal: Nico signs 7-year extension with Devils

It’s official: Nico will remain a New Jersey Devil when his entry-level contract expires at the end of the 2019-2020 NHL season. The two sides agreed on a 7-year contract extension worth USD 50’750’000 (AAV USD 7.25 Mio) this afternoon.

The deal makes Nico the highest-paid Swiss ice hockey player of all time and a permanent fixture for the franchise that drafted him no. 1 overall in the 2017 NHL draft. The new contract runs through the end of the 2026-2027 season.

In 157 games to date, Nico has scored 37goals and 64 assists for the Devils, who clearly value Nico’s team-first mentality as well as his contributions to the club on and off the ice.
