Nico, Team Switzerland wrap up World Championship prep, start tournament play on Friday
Competing at the Beijer Hockey Games in Angelholm, Sweden, Team Switzerland wrapped up their final week of preparation for the IIHF World Championship today. Taking on the likes of Finland (5-4 SO), Sweden (0-3) and the Czech Republic (6-1), the Swiss came a away with two wins and one loss.
After joining the team earlier in the week, Nico and his fellow NHL imports Roman Josi, Timo Meier, and Nino Niederreiter only appeared in the two games vs. Finland and Sweden. In both games, Nico was joined on the right wing by his Devils teammate Timo Meier, while the left wing was split between Fribourg’s Attilio Biasca and Théo Rochette from Lausanne HC. Individually, Nico was kept off the scoring sheet in both games.
Next up for Switzerland is the opening game of the World Championship this Friday against the defending champions and Olympic gold medalists, Team USA (02:20 PM EST). One day later, the Swiss will face Latvia, again at 02:20 PM EST. Both games will take place in Zurich’s Swiss Life Arena.
