Switzerland, Nico suffer heartbreak, win silver at IIHF world’s

Team Switzerland and Nico won the silver medal at the IIHF World Championship in Prague and Ostrava. After a great knockout phase with wins over Germany (3-1) and Canada (3-2 SO), the Swiss fell to the Czech Republic by a score of 0-2 in yesterday’s final.

The hosts thereby successfully avenged their defeat to Switzerland in preliminary round action, while the Swiss came within a whisker of the title for the third time in the last eleven years. Understandably, Nico and his teammates were terribly disappointed after the Czechs secured their 13th world championship with an empty netter with 19 seconds left.

Individually, Nico scored a total of eleven points (6 goals, 5 assists) over the course of the tournament while winning 54.60% of his face-offs. He finished the tournament with a plus-6 rating and was named one of the three tournament All-Stars for the Swiss alongside Roman Josi and Kevin Fiala.
