Nico joins Team Switzerland

After a brief two-day vacation at home, Nico has joined the Swiss national team this past Friday in preparation for the upcoming IIHF World Championships. He then played for Switzerland in the team’s 2-3 (OT) loss vs. Sweden on Saturday, which was part of the Sweden Hockey Games, a warm-up event.

In the loss, the newly formed Swiss top line with Nico, Timo Meier (San Jose) and Janis Moser (Arizona) found their legs rather quickly following their last-minute arrival and accounted for both Swiss goals. The tournament ended today, but the trio was held out from the Swiss’ final game vs. the Czech Republic (0-3) as were Dean Kukan (Columbus) and Denis Malgin (ZSC Lions).

In the days to come, Head Coach Patrick Fischer will move his team to Finland, where they’ll be taking on Italy next Saturday (10:20 AM ET) in the team’s World Championship opener.
